Lakers lost last night. No couchsurfers for the first time in a while - the apartment feels lonely and empty :/
American Idol finale tonight. Nicole won Dancing with the Stars. [Despite Juan's texts trying to get me to vote for that random other guy. How could I not vote for Nicole Scherzinger? I liked her since she was part of Eden's Crush!]
I got a full night's rest. Slept from 9:30-7:00am. Good.
Made a frittata for breakfast (because we have no milk). Drove to work 8:25.
Legal jargon. I should use more of it (in everyday conversations). Case closed. Any objections?
...now considering buying a domain name and developing my own website. Just need a good idea. Has to be interactive - maybe a place for people to record the stories of where they were during historical events (like to later tell their grandchildren)?
Music: Usher - OMG; Gaga - Telephone
News: BP is gonna try to plug the oil leak in the gulf. Again. "top kill"
Lunch: I drove to KFC and had 2 "snackers". They weren't good (honey bbq was really dry!).
"Quiet yelling"
Work is busy. Admin staff - looking for files, essentially.
Gintas & Vida are leaving L.A. today - they finally fixed their van and all, and have now, at 11 days, just passed my Aussies to become my longest couchsurfers!
Iowa (Andie, Lacey, and Adam), meanwhile, didn't come back last night. I guess they didn't want to impose. They were at a friend's place in Orange County.
Went to Don Antonio's for dinner. Watched the finale of The Big Bang Theory.
Matt bussed it to class this morning.
Work is very busy this morning. From the beginning - doing 3 hours of work in 1 hour.
Weather: It's chilly at night. Windy and cool all week (possible rain coming up?)
They really should get rid of the electoral college. It makes no sense and is unfair to us in California.
Lunch: Leftover Soribol Korean BBQ ($0, paid yesterday ^.^)
uh oh... we can't find the binder containing a case's CDs at work. Hmm...
Music: The Doors - Love Her Madly; Heart - Alone
I'm exhausted from this weekend.
CS: I now have 5 people sleeping at my place.
A busy morning @ work.
Watched the Lost finale last night. I think I can get into this show, heh heh.
I heard back from Google! My interview is now on Thursday :) [they messed up in not scheduling my interview the first time]
I am constantly tired.
Lunch: Sorabol Korean BBQ. over $9.
...pulling more docs...
submitted my travel itinerary/application for the interview
water cooler is broken
long day @ work - til 6:55.
Music: Lady Gaga - Telephone; Ya Boy - We Run LA; Travie McCoy - Billionaire
Sat/Sun 22-23 May
Tuesday, May 25, 2010Friday Night: Drove home--er, to my mom's house, to meet with relatives. I went out with Maddie. We were gonna go to Martin's party but it was winding down. So we met up with my friend Christina and did a little bar hop in the Valley. But we were hungry, and so we went first to Tommy's. Then to Bar One, which was just a couple blocks away on Burbank Blvd. It wasn't too big, and there was a creepy old guy there who was bothering the girls. The crowd was very un-LA. I liked it, then I felt uncomfortable because there were no hipsters or anything around. We then left and headed to No Bar, which was a much swankier loungy place right on Magnolia. Despite the names, I would definitely prefer No Bar to Bar One. They played "Don't Stop Believin'" and I yelled at some random girl next to me that she has to sing it too. Her boyfriend, sitting right next to her, agreed with me. Drove Christina back to her place, Maddie back to my mom's place, and myself all the way back to West LA. I wasn't home until 3:30am.
Saturday: I didn't get much sleep. Woke up at 8:30am with a phone call that my mom was on her way to pick me up for our family day trip to Solvang. FUUUUUUUUUUUC. I snoozed it off, and when they arrived, Matt was about to leave so I just decided to go with him. Gintas and Vida were barely waking up as well.
We had the BMW and a huge rental van - one of those big white Chevy vans that can hold 10 people. Maddie drove there, I drove back. We had lunch in Santa Barbara at a nice seafood restaurant near the pier. It was chilly and very windy, there was blowing sand at the beach. Solvang was nice, I tried æbleskiver. I got the last 2 in the restaurant. Walked around a bit, bathroom breaks essentially. Then we drove back around 5pm. Nothing else too eventful.
I then tried to figure out how I was gonna get to P&A's party. My couchsurfers saved me - Gintas and Vida offered to drive, and the girls from Iowa soon arrived and we made it into a party bus excursion! The party was cool, but it ended pretty soon (A's graduation was the next morning). But the party don't stop - we kept it going on the ride back, including wandering around Santa Monica and onto the pier at (?) 2am-ish.
Sunday: I had to meet the family for lunch in Chinatown. I woke up around 9, sleep deprived yet again, and tried to be on a bus by 11. On my way to the bus stop, a bus passed me. It was already a block ahead of me, but for some reason, I thought, fuck it, and I just ran for it. And I ran across Sepulveda, and the bus was already boarding passengers. Thank god for this one old lady, she kept asking the bus driver if she'd be getting on the right bus. She held up the bus long enough for me to make it on. I was catching my breath on the bus ride, as people cast me sideways glances. On the bus, after passing Highland, a woman who had been looking at a route map asked me where was Rodeo Drive and Hollywood. She was from Australia (Melbourne) and didn't know that we had already passed the sightseeing places. I directed them to just take the Metro back.
Lunch was dim sum at Empress Pavillion. There was a lot of shrimp. And I'm sure a lot of MSG too, because I was feeling dry-mouth and unusually lethargic all day afterwards.
Back to the house. We didn't know what to do next, so we sat for a couple hours. Then we decided to go to Pasadena. Old town it was. A bit of walking around. I got a "smoothie" (essentially a milkshake) from 21 Choices. It was good, but had a different texture than an ice cream-based shake. But walnuts and oreos actually make a good flavor profile when blended into a shake.
Then we ate (what else do we do) at The Hat. And then went to the Norton Simon Museum; it was closing and we were all tired, so we didn't actually go in.
Back home, but Maddie and I went on a separate wild chase to track down Kuya Jan Jan and Co. They were texting us, but there was a delay in the texts so that by the time we got to LACMA, they were already downtown. It was pointless because they still had to meet with his friend.
I returned, then said bye to the fam. Then Maddie and my mom dropped me off at my apt. Hung out a little bit with my couchsurfers, we watched the series finale of LOST, then I passed out quickly because I was simply exhausted.
Friday, 21st of May
Monday, May 24, 2010Watched NBC last night - finales of Parks and Rec, Office, 30 Rock.
CS: the Spaniard and the Irishman didn't arrive. Gintas and Vida got their van! And are staying through the weekend (for registration, etc.)
Jogged around VA Hospital. Scarfed down some oatmeal. My morning routine. Drove Matt to campus.
Google - still no response. Hrm.
News: Senate passed financial reform!
Lunch: I had lunch at Rocksugar with my mom and Auntie J. It lasted 2 hours but whatever.
- The rest of the relatives are on their way back from SD today.
...still dunno my plans for tonight/this weekend...
I am still at work. 7pm almost.
Too much going on. I'll prob end up doing nothing this weekend.
Songs: Justice - D.A.N.C.E.; The Summer Set - Punch-Drunk Love; Mayday Parade - Jamie All Over
Thursday, May 20, 2010
Thursday, May 20, 2010Ruben came over last night - to "celebrate" my interview appointment! We watched the Lakers win game 2 vs. the Suns and ordered Thai food.
Gintas & Vida are still around too. We cooked up a simple beef and veggies dish (I can get used to making a home-cooked meal every night - and then waking up to find the kitchen perfectly cleaned up!) and then watched Precious.
I didn't sleep until 1am. (We started watching the movie late.) It was hard to wake up this morning - I missed Matthew. I think I was having an unpleasant dream too. The weather was perfect in the morning - dry and sunny.
@ work 9am. Mailed Netflix.
Looked at "fantasy maps" of the earth rotated around and how that would change the climate, sea levels, etc.
The internet is down, 11:30-12:00. I guess I'll just have my lunch.
Lunch: Leftover Thai food (pad thai).
News: Stocks down today. It's officially a correction now (down over 10% from the peak). The Euro is trading at $1.25 (If only I could go to Europe now!).
I finally finished the damn research project that's been on my back for the past few weeks! What a relief. Now to get through the backlog of other work.
Weather: Warm and sunny.
Called home - my auntie was there, she didn't join the rest of the gang on their day trip to San Diego today. She wasn't feeling well because she fell down.
Tonight - free concert? Ethiopian food?; Tomorrow - meet with relatives?
Thought: "Login" or "logon"? Or "Sign on"?
Gintas & Vida got their van! They're coming back now (trying to get through rush-hour traffic from Gardena - that'll be an hour easily).
Songs: Paramore - Brick by Boring Brick; Travie McCoy - Billionaire; Jason DeRulo - In My Head; John Mayer - Free Fallin' (cover!); Johnny Cash - One (cover!); My Favorite Highway - Bigger Than Love.
My internet radio has been sending me lots of enjoyable pop punk :)
I helped drive the relatives from Union Station to mom's house last night. Took 2 trips. There isn't really parking there unless you want to pay $2 for 20 minutes. My mom's house is now officially full of people; I'm so glad I have my own place to escape it all!
I'm tired. I swear I need more sleep.
Gintas & Vida are still here. I told them they could stay for however long they need to set up the car. We cooked another feast last night. Drumsticks, spam, mac and cheese, rice, and broccoli. Actually it was mostly me doing all the cooking ^.^
I haven't heard back yet. Hrm.
Work: Read wikipedia - learned about hurricanes and dog breeds (terriers). I'm trying to find news articles, but it's really hard to filter the information down to what I need.
Lunch: I spilled mac and cheese on my shirt. (I smelled like cheese the rest of the day.) Man, I'm extra clumsy today :(
Reading MLIA.
AN got into med school!
I GOT THE CALL BACK!!! YES!!!
Free concert tomorrow night?
Ruben's coming over...
Songs: B.o.B. feat. Hayley Williams - Airplanes
Drove Matt to school this morning - it was drizzly/showery.
My relatives (all 11 of them) are on their way to LA right now, on a 12 hour train ride from Oakland.
I'm making progress on my Marine project for work. It's been tough, because I can hardly find any relevant information.
Lunch: Met with JENN! We had food from the Border Grill Truck, which was parked at UCLA's court of sciences! Pork, chicken, asada, and fish tacos, all made with delicious gourmet ingredients, not the usual salt and spice you'd expect from a normal taco. And at $2.50-$3 each, you're getting what you pay for! Jenn then showed me her desk and her office!
Weather: Drizzly. Showery. Chilly. Yucky.
Still figuring out how we're going to transport 11 people from the train station to my mom's house.
Songs: Timbaland feat. Katy Perry - If We Ever Meet Again; Ke$ha - Your Love Is My Drug; Lady Gaga - Alejandro
I rode my bike to work today :)
- only took 15-20 minutes. I'm feeling good. But the roads were slick; the weather's showery :/
Work: Things are very active this morning. I have a lot to do, but I'm handling it well! The bike ride sure energized me. We have a new guy who started today (Dave the summer associate - I thought he was the new paralegal for a second).
CS: Gintas & Vida are still here.
Lunch: bagged salad from TJ's with dressing and almonds.
...still busy busy at the office...
SBS meeting tonight - but looks like I can't make it.
Weather: Still chilly and showery - will I have to bike back in the rain?
Random thought: Australia's flag is essentially the UK in space!
Songs: Usher - OMG; Slade - Merry Xmas Everybody
I chilled at the apartment for much of the morning/afternoon. Gintas and Vida went on a expedition to Gardena to try to find a van for them.
I organized my pictures and music. It's a lot of work - plugging in the camera, transfering the pics onto my laptop (PC), deleting the bad pics, plugging in my external hard drive, transferring pics onto the external, plugging in the external into my MacBook, transferring the pics onto the MacBook, and editing them with iPhoto (then eventually re-transferring the edited photos back onto the external hard drive. WHEW! And that's just pictures. It's just as involved a process for me to fully "save" my music - involving my ipod, both laptops, and my external. Technology has nearly crippled me, seems like :/
This afternoon I rode my new bike :) to the beach, just to see how long it would take. The bike doesn't go as fast as I thought it would. Maybe I just don't know how to shift the gears (but I looked up online how to use the gears). I noticed that the front gears don't seem to shift properly - I manually transferred the chain onto the second gear afterwards. But anyway, I biked to Montana Avenue and back. There are a lot of really nice houses on that side of Santa Monica, and plenty of quaint boutiques and stuff along Montana itself. But what else would I expect - it's right next to Brentwood and the Palisades! It was foggy and cool - the perfect weather to exercise in!
Returned to the apt, relaxed a bit more. G&V returned (car-less) and we made tortellini for dinner. We also watched the finale (from a week ago) of The Amazing Race. It was not as exciting a finale as other seasons. Well, the teams I liked were eliminated weeks ago. But they scaled Coit Tower! And I was just there a few weeks ago!!! Seriously, Amazing Race, good job this season on going to places that I've already been (LA, Hamburg, Singapore, SF)!
After biking across all of LA and feeling mighty exhausted, I found Gintas and Vida still at my place. They had been looking online for a van to buy. They congratulated me on my new transportation device.
Then I said, hey, let's go! And we headed to Hollywood. We were all pretty starving, so double-doubles and animal fries did the trick. Walked around Hollywood Blvd. There were plenty of characters out and about. A bunch of loudmouthed teenage girls dressed in neon-spangled outfits were singing lines from "Party in the USA". One of them yelled "where's the Hollywood sign?" And I, being nearby, told them where to look. She got really happy and did a mini break dance right there in the middle of the street. It cheered me up from my tired state. (note to self: "me" + "tired" = "mired").
The three of us walked down the Boulevard, trying to recognize the increasingly-unfamiliar names on stars. We made it to Vine, where we turned right and walked along. The new W Hotel complex is open, but there are a bunch of vacant storefronts waiting to be filled (Trader Joes is opening up there soon). We found the star for the other Michael Jackson (radio personality).
Grabbed the bus back to the apt. Still full from the In-N-Out, we munched on pringles and watched Julie & Julia.
I am now inspired to cook. Also, somehow I didn't know (or I forgot) that Julia Child was dead. I kept expecting her to make a cameo or something in the movie. BONNNN Apetit!
Saturday, May 15, 2010
Wednesday, May 19, 2010Lessons learned today: Riding a bike takes a lot of effort. And biking across Los Angeles is not easy.
Friday, May 14, 2010

Watched Community, Parks and Recreation, The Office last night.
The Cavs have been eliminated from the playoffs by the Celtics.
News: The missing 22 year old girl from Glendale was a hoax! She wasn't actually a UCLA student, but was lying to her parents the whole time!; NBC cancels Law & Order; space shuttle Atlantis takes off for the final time.
Listening to Pandora radio today.
Newest version of MS Office will be online? Hmm...
Lunch: Leftover chaufa and some packaged salad (TJ's)
Music: The Summer Set; Every Avenue; Dr. Dre; The White Tie Affair; Snoop Dogg (oh, Pandora).
...checking out bikes on Craigslist!
Thursday May 13, 2010
Monday, May 17, 2010Got up just as Matt was heading out (so I didn't drive him to class as I would have).
It's a beautiful day. And I'm stuck inside.
Recorded my hours - got no warning this time that they were due.
Lunch: Perfuvian chaufa (fried rice). Yum.
Thinking of how to coordinate the logistics for my relatives' visit next week. There are going to be over 13 of us.
I'm working on a really tough loss chart to decipher/compile.
Wikipedia updated its layout!
News: Renewed fighting in Thailand; there's a missing 22yo girl in Glendale; a 12yo boy did an awesome piano cover of Lady Gaga's "Paparazzi"; a 9yo Dutch boy is the sole survivor of a plane crash in Libya.

It's been 12 years today.
Phone interview tonight!!!
Songs: Black Eyed Peas - I Gotta Feeling; O-Zone - Dragostea Din Tei
Watched The Boondock Saints last night. Also ate ramen.
Jogged Missouri Ave. this morning.

News: Stocks have rebounded from last Thursday's crazy semi-collapse.
Soooo tired today... and I did hardly any work too.

Saturday: Drove my mom to the farmers market in Burbank, cut my hair, found a portable DVD player in the garage, watched The Princess Bride, hung out with Matthew, Marissa and Brian for Brian's birthday in Alhambra (Alondra Hot Wings, Fosselman's, Target). A long walk.
Sunday: Catalina island for Mother's Day! A great escape and a great day - I saw a school of dolphins and a whale during the boat ride to the island. I also hiked up to the top of a mountain overlooking Avalon - it was quite the hike, at least 2 miles uphill! But the views were really spectacular. It's expensive to rent a golf cart there, though.
Songs: B.o.B feat. Hayley Williams - Airplanes

Friday, May 7, 2010Shut down all computer systems last night...

Birthday Weekend
Thursday, May 6, 2010Friday night: Went to Dave & Buster's with Matthew and his family. Lots of food, I had two Newcastles (why does the first beer always taste so good?!). I quickly bought a shirt at H&M. The girl ringing me up had an exclamation point on her name tag!
Saturday: Happy new month! I GOT A MACBOOK PRO. Had lunch at the Galleria - some Korean chicken place, it was alright. My mom is still driving the rental car that the insurance company is providing :)
Spent the afternoon getting to know my new Macbook.
Went to dinner at Hole in the Wall burger joint (finally). It's good! I like the system they have here. Matthew couldn't make it. Hrm.
Got ready for my party. Brian was there when I arrived. A good number of people showed up. Fernand, Vincent, Jmar, Jen, Josh, Martin, Mike, Carolina, Hanna (and their roommate Madeleine), P and Adrian, Ang and Kevin. We did not play guitar hero, despite how desperate Brian was to get it to work (which included driving 25 mins each way to my mom's house). We made a 1am taco run.
Sunday: I'm 23! Brian, Priscilla and Adrian stayed over. Brian had work so he left earliest. I spent the afternoon of my birthday alone. I walked to the farmer's market right before they closed, bought some fresh veggies and fruit to snack on.
I then set a relatively ambitious goal: to walk from my apartment to the beach. 3.8 miles. And I did it. I stopped for a late lunch at the Carl's Jr (which holds sentimental value for me; it's the site of my HS freshman retreat lunch). I had a $1 chicken sandwich and treated myself to criss-cut fries. There were two older men sitting at a table, who were talking loudly about politics and history. It was impossible to not hear them. They were walking a thin line - talking about whether Asians are naturally smarter (they agreed it was because Asians are just harder-working and that "when you live in a tropical country, you're lazy"). The views of older people often disturb/frighten me.
The weather was perfect. I mean, 74 and brilliantly sunny with a light breeze coming off the ocean. I really mean perfect.
I made it to the beach, and strolled around on the sand. The water was extremely cold. There were a lot of families on the beach by the pier. I ended up walking along the sand 3/4 of the way to Venice beach. I didn't have a towel or anything to sit on, so I lay on a concrete ledge by the bike path to give my feet and eyes a rest. There were a few moments on the beach when I could hear nothing but my thoughts. It's been a while since I've had the luxury of complete silence, without any cars passing by or computers humming.
I thought about sincerity and it's lackingness in much of society. I thought about maintaining purity and integrity in one's actions. The pureness of childhood. "Unadulterated" is an important word. Ah, to be adulterated sounds like such a bad thing, and painful at that. Just thoughts that anyone would think on a birthday.
I called my mom and uncle, who wanted to have dinner with me. And so we did. (I took the bus back to the apartment.) We went to Bossa Nova on Pico. It was a nice (and large-portioned) dinner of pasta and a Brazilian sandwich. The guys serving us seemed uninterested in us, however.
Back at the apartment, and back to playing with/learning how to use my new laptop. I transferred my music.
I simply cannot wake up today. I really have no energy.
Last night: Had SBS team meeting. I was late. There was traffic (I'm so glad I don't have to deal with all that every day anymore). Watched TAR at home.
--
Today, Matt drove me to work. He will put the mayo back in the fridge, get my laundry, and drive us back to Glassell at 4pm.
