Watched Wet Hot American Summer. It wasn't so bad as I had feared it might be.
Ate ramen. Drove home to Glassell. Traffic at 7:30pm. St. Bernard's meeting.
Home. Bought burrito and quesadilla from Leo's taco truck. Finished the movie. Mom returned.

--
Woke up late ~8:15. Left for work 8:45 => arrived 9:20.
I am tired constantly. And so uninterested in everything.
ENNUI
Organizing finances. Yuck. Car payment, transferring funds between my accounts, etc.
Music: Arctic Monkeys - Mardy Bum; The Vogues - Five O'Clock World
Lunch: Banana. Office snacks. Meh. Bought some frozen food from Gelson's.

Friday, August 27, 2010

Whoa, the days/weeks go by so quickly now.
Went to Glendale last night - I was feeling bored with life. So I just got annoyed at everything. (Man, I can be grumpy sometimes after work!)
CPK with Alisa and Michelle. Then Americana. I didn't go to Triana's.

I'm still freaking sore! (mostly my shins)
Rode my bike to work today - Avenue of the Stars is to be closed for a protest.
Music: Lady Gaga - Poker Face
There's no farmer's market today :( due to the protest. Boo.
Lunch: Frozen burrito (I had it saved in the freezer).
I am more calm when people around me are stressy.
Ugh - my facebook friend count went down by 1. Again. I hate that.

Gotta go to St. Bernard's tonight - or do I?

Oh god. I'm still so sore. All over, especially my legs.

Goodbye to James, I didn't really get to hang out with him.
Meeting with Alisa tonight - summer concert @ the Americana - Paula Cole.
Sill considering planning schools today.
I WAS ABLE TO GUESS THE COMPANY'S CREDIT CARD VERIFICATION NUMBER!
- I probably had it subliminally stored in my memory. Still, psychic power ftw.
Spreadsheet work today.
Still ridiculously hot outside. I may stay inside the office all day.
Music: Train - Hey Soul Sister; Jamie Cullum - Please Don't Stop the Music
So many food trucks to follow.
I'm chuckling - on Monday, I wore Chucks, watched Chuck, and almost up-chucked while chucking out the trash!
God, I miss London. . .
I'm a part-time vegetarian. I like it.
Considering volunteering for my Labor Day weekend. Organic farm?
Street closure tomorrow. I should just ride my bike.
"Electric Boogaloo" - heh heh.

Watched Chuck last night with James. We kept the futon open (no one was sitting on it) and sat on chairs. Awkward.

I AM SORE. So sore. From the hike to the Hollywood Sign yesterday - I thought I was going to be late to pick up my mom, so I ended up running downhill (while wearing chucks!). Tore up my shins and ankles.
101 free prints from Shutterfly. Hmm?
Just found out that urban planners don't earn that much. In fact, I might be earning less that what I'm earning now! :( Now I'm reconsidering my career choice.
UCL has good programmes.
Lunch: Leftover Tofu (spicy).
The back of the office is now empty, since we've settled the big case.
Updated the travel blog. New layout.
Should I get my securities license? Why not?
Michelle almost died this weekend! WTF?!
Didn't go outside all day. It's simply too hot.

Took mom to the doctor's this morning for her appointment.
I hate hospitals. I cringe a little every time I enter one.
I trimmed my hair a little before I got into the shower. It's too hot to be sporting the amount of hair I had.
2 hours to kill, so I drove through Hollywood. I ended up hiking up to the Hollywood Sign. It was sunny and bakingly hot.
I had to wait for mom until 12. Lunch at Sanamluang Cafe on Hollywood. Drove back home (hot!) then to work.

Got to work at 2pm.
Casey is now working here full time.
...16 couchrequests to respond to. Ai ya.
I've got several meetings this week... Hmm, I might as well stay in Glassell Park.
News: Tiger Woods getting divorced, it's official.
It's supposed to be even hotter tomorrow.

IvyPlus?
Music: Right Said Fred - I'm Too Sexy

Friday night: Office happy hour - I went into the VodBox! Had a shot (chocolate espresso) of vodka in a freezer. Said goodbye to coworkers Olga, Liz, Farrah.
Beverly Hills is legit.
Got back to the apartment like 9pm. Exhausted, I passed out.

Saturday:
Left early (8:45-9am) to get to Glendale for an info session about becoming an investment broker. I don't know if it was for me. I was the only "young" person there.
I dunno.
Back at home for the day. Got some lunch at Sun's in Highland Park. What a great find! Decent food, huge portions, about $5 a plate?!
Watched The Real World because nothing else was recorded on the DVR.
Met up with Chris (!!!) at Alhambra. Then joined Brian. Ate at Pharos burgers in Alhambra. Talked baseball and music, what do you expect.
Chris left, Brian and I walked around a little then went to Marissa's. Watched the end of the Dodger game with her brothers then headed out.

Came across the Venice room in Montebello/Monterey Park. Karaoke. It's alright, if you're 39.
Late night J in the B food rampage. ugh. Slept at 3am.

Sunday: Breakfast at Tommy's! Picked up Chris 9:30am. Met Brian there - his first Tommy's breakfast. Discussed our options for taking a trip to Houston or Seattle in September. Or anywhere to catch a game.
Brian had work. Chris and I hung around Pasadena, ended up at the Best Buy and of all places, Nordstrom Rack. Then to Target. Restocking items.

It was soo hot.

Returned home. Ate some leftover noodles and a whole chicken breast (from my mom's soup). I passed out HARD. No chance of going to that party thingy that James had invited me to. Groggily awoke and watched the latest Entourage. Ari is under scrutiny for his management style! G'night.

I'm having an off morning.

I'm knocking things over, being one clumbsy mess. I had no motivation to get out of bed. Trying to energize myself, I forced myself to go for a morning jog but I only felt more drained. I pan fried some chicken, because it had been defrosting all week, and I needed something for lunch. I did have some rice cooked last night. It's awkward to share a kitchen with two vegans.

Drove to work 9:15. The left turn lane was really backed up, I drove on Massachusetts to Westwood.
Apparently "quash" is a legal term.
I forgot how to solve for the least common multiple.
Music: Travie McCoy - Billionaire
I don't eat -> I'm tired. I eat -> I'm tired. WTF?!
Lots of negative energy today. I need to just stop it. Just decide to be happy.
... things really aren't going my way today at all. :(

HAPPY HOUR WITH THE OFFICE @ Nic's in Beverly Hills!

Thursday the 19th of August

Monday, August 23, 2010

Watched The Time Traveler's Wife last night. Rachel McAdams. It wasn't that bad. But again, it's a sappy romantic movie. So I would be handing in my man-card if I recommended the movie without telling you to skip over all the non-Rachel McAdams scenes.

The Korean girls returned from the Dodgers game late (midnight). The Dodgers lost in 10 innings.
I adopted a word: Kexy.
Cleaned out my Gmail. Set up lots of new filters, etc., to keep it organized.
Lunch: Nothing. Bananas and trail mix and cheez its.
Music: Rise Against

Tattoo? Eagle. That would be awesome.

I BOUGHT MY CAR INSURANCE. AAA won.

Went to Rosalind's Ethiopian Restaurant last night with Yuno, Jae, and Jeesu (finally got her name). The girls enjoyed Six Flags but were delayed in the morning thanks to Obama shutting down half of LA.
It was warm last night - I dreamt I was in a Tarantino-esque movie (Reservoir Dogs, but less bloody).

Emailed professor at UCLA for career advice with pursuing city/urban planning.
9021Pho, Pho Show, Pho Shizzle, What the Pho?
What is it about 20-Somethings? (7 of my fb friends "shared" this; must seem interesting)
Halloween costume - time to plan already?
Lunch: Tacone wrap. Gotta love that.
Okay, it's not warm anymore. It's officially hot.

I learned that Wilshire Blvd is named after Gaylord Wilshire.
Career of the day: Jobs with the OECD - I'd be working in Paris! Ooh la la.
Practicing my German by reading the news on Spiegel.de

Walking on my break today, I saw a film crew drive by filming a car driving scene on Ave of the Stars.

Hung our with the Korean girls last night, til midnight. They're going to Six Flags today.
Watched more Chuck, season 1. Cooked up a new recipe - cheesy french toast! I'm such a resourceful cook :)

Work: Still on the line with Verizon trying to get the email to load on this blackberry. (total time on phone with tech support: 1.5 hours)
Obama's visit to LA = lots of pissed off people! Traffic was really a giant clusterfuck yesterday. I feel like Johnny Drama today, ready to (foolishly) take down anyone.
Lunch: Some extra cheesy french toast with ranch dressing
It's warm, close to full-blown hot outside. The sun on my skin seared.
Today's career interest: Finance. Sent in an application to an assent management firm.
Blah to work. Never more. How do people spend their lives in a 9-5 job?!

Music to get: Steely Dan

Monday August 16

Friday, August 20, 2010

The 3 Korean girls arrived last night - Yuno, Jae, and Jeusdee (?). I was close to being passed out when they arrived (I took a benadryl because my allergies seemed to be acting up).

August is halfway over.

I'm still worrying about car insurance.

Lionel's back at work - so I'm going to be busier now :/

Walked to Vons this morning - got milk, bananas, etc.
Need to clean the apartment.

Comparing insurance quotes - blah!

Just looked up my former coach when I went to UCLA Volleyball camp back in 2002. Turns out he (Jesse D.) is now a practicing lawyer. Wtf?!

Auto drive away - get paid to drive a car cross-country. YES PLEASE!

Called Scott (who's considering living at my apartment 1 night a week).

Lunch: SPAGHETTI SURPRISE! Somehow my leftovers from dinner on Saturday got mixed up - instead of getting the second half of my chicken parmigiana, I opened the take-away box to reveal a healthy heap of spaghetti with sausage! Oh well, boun appetit!

Music: Lynyrd Skynrd - Sweet Home Alabama

Hmm, maybe I should take up swing dancing. It sure looks fun. And I won't be able to flip when I get older...

BOGAN. (Aussie slang) Heh heh.

Conseco settles! $41 million! YES!
- the whole office has left. Presumably to celebrate our big settlement.

Alan left Friday evening, packed all his clothes designs and clothes racks into his friend's small station wagon/mini SUV.

Watched Hot Tub Time Machine. Funny.

Drove back home Saturday morning. Caught up with Entourage. Finished watching season 3 of Weeds. Finally. Walked to the Glendale Galleria to meet my mom, who had just watched Eat Pray Love. Man, I'm really good about avoiding the movies. Well, we went to dinner in Los Feliz, because they were really in the mood for spaghetti with sausage (apparently it's big in the movie). Palermo restaurant.

Sunday:  Church. Titas. K Ferdie came over to help them all set up a living trust thingy. Watched UFC fights. Saw the new house (well not new, but new to us) being rented.

Back to the apartment. Three Korean girls are scheduled to arrive.

Wednesday, August 18, 2010

Oh, it's Friday the 13th. Didn't even realize it.

Living in uncertain times...

Went to Santa Monica yesterday evening. Met up with Michelle and Justin and his friends. Alisa couldn't join because Christian's grandpa had died. We had dinner at the brand new Santa Monica Place mall. It's quite upscale. Then to the Thursday night free concert on the pier. There was wine tasting too, to celebrate Natalie's birthday. Also a couple more friends from Orange County. The wine was okay, cheap stuff from Australia; I don't care much for white wine anyway. I also ended up holding everyone's favorite snack, Michelle's banana bread with chocolate melty chips in it. Afterwards we hit up Bar Food on Wilshire. Michelle didn't come because Ben was locked out of their apartment in Pasadena. There Nikita (who has just returned from a year volunteering in Mumbai, India) met our server for the evening, who is also Indian, and also born and raised in Mumbai! What a crazy small world it is sometimes. Got back home around 12 midnight.
Alan from airbnb is staying over. We haven't really gotten to hang out.

Now I'm worried about car insurance. I submitted requests for quotes to several agencies, and it's freaking expensive! There goes the rest of my paycheck. And there goes my round-the-world trip :(

It's frustrating. I stomped on the grassy area outside the ATM. I think the valet parking guy saw me.

Music: Metallica - Enter Sandman; The Cure - Friday I'm in Love

Music to check out: Simian Mobile Disco; Hot Chip; We Have Band; PlayRadioPlay!

Tuesday, August 17, 2010

Back at apt last night. Watched more Chuck and ate mac and cheese (which I almost burned).
Kevin anc Crystal returned and we played Settlers of Catan. Cool game.
Alan from airbnb arrived past midnight. I was asleep. He has a lot of clothes (he's a designer), and is showing them to Kitson today.
Finally uploaded my backlog of fb pics.
MG went to the Lady Gaga concert last night. Heheh.
Lionel is still out (3 weeks now). So it's quiet at the office.
Sent in my car registration info for insurance.
...getting so many couchsurfing requests, so hard to say no to all of them.
It's Thursday! I didn't even realize that.
Lunch: Leftover Thai food.
I got my financial aid refund check!
I walked to the bank and forgot to bring my wallet. D'oh.
Music: Travie McCoy - Billionaire; Carrie Underwood (as covered by crazy Chinese guy) - Before He Cheats
Andy skydived today. Patty didn't go.
Got my car insurance quote. It's expensive. :( I'm just losing money from every side. I don't have the luxury of just quitting my job now.
Dinner w/ Michelle and Justin in Santa Monica. Alisa isn't coming.

A good evening walk to Griffith Observatory last night. The two bean burritos I scarfed down didn't really act up in my stomach either :X
It was chilly atop the mountain though. THAI FOOD followed, finally choosing a place after several no-gos.

Got back 12:30am.
Woke up tired.

Applied to real estate financial analyst position.
Found an interesting talk by Sheer Iyengar on the art of choosing (TED conference). Americans' insistence of choice can be bad - overwhelming, sometimes suffocating and destructive to social relationships. I'm struggling with my plethora of choices now. Ah, to be part of another culture, if only...
Lunch: Microwaved burrito. Yum. Not.
Music: Taio Cruz - Dynamite

Monday, August 16, 2010

Met with mom for dinner last night. Drove from work (at a very leisurely pace, taking 3rd Street) to downtown, all the way to Boyle Heights, then back to Chinatown. She met me there after work, but a lot of restaurants are closed on Monday nights (wtf?!), so we ended up grabbing ramen in Little Tokyo. Family, sigh.
Came back to the apt, circa 9pm. Organized some photos/music on my laptop, watched Big Bang Theory then bed.
It's really hard for me to remember my dreams nowadays. Is that normal?
Walked to the kosher market near my apt this morning. Bought bananas, milk, etc.

Man, I really should just start that tour guide/travel company. Or just write like Rick Steves.
Making a list of "firsts" by day.
Music: Chumbawumba - Tubthumping
Lunch:
Looking at pics from Vietnam/Cambodia - If I can ever afford it, I'd totally want to build my own "Hidden Temple" complete with its own shrine of the silver monkey.
I should attend a taping of Jimmy Kimmel or some show soon.
A busy day for my coworkers. Not me though.

Watched Season 1 of Chuck yesterday.
Started using ratings on my Itunes.
A lot of people around me seem to be getting good luck lately. I'm like a good luck Chuck?
Meh - my outlook on life right now. A lot of what I'm doing just doesn't seem exciting. I feel like I'm being held back. Like running a marathon while carrying a dumbell. If only I could bring myself to put that weight down. (random moment of depth, wtf?)
My hair is getting longer.
Music: Journey - Don't Stop Believin'; Dexy's Midnight Runners - Come on Eileen; Starship - Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now; Starsailor - Silence Is Easy
What are my plans for this week? Downtown LA artwalk.
I'm turning everything today into a Yakov Smirnoff joke, i.e. "In Soviet Russia..."
Lunch: Chicken thigh bits and hot dog buns. Another ghetto meal for my ghetto self.
The elevators are broken in the building.
Aaah. Hard to apply to jobs. I'll just go for grad school. In the UK!

Yawn

Saturday night.

Jason arrives back at the apartment. Two unfamiliar girls are inside. Not to be distracted, Jason proclaims, "excuse me while I pass out," and without hesitation walks into his bedroom and promptly collapses on his bed.

10 minutes later, a newly refreshed Jason emerges, apologizing for his curt entrance and introduces himself to Victoria and Rachel. Michelle and Lawrence were there too.

And so began a night of FML license plates, hilariously distracted female drivers, a nail salon-themed bar, a midnight excursion to Food 4 Less, Mexican wrestling masks, and a voice-debilitating night/early morning of karaoke. Needless to say, people get very defensive about their song choices: From "Horny" to the mandatory "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Livin' on a Prayer" to the disappointingly English "99 Luftballooons" and the disappointingly shortened theme to Fresh Prince. For some reason I was drawing blanks on types of 80s songs. And Michelle freaked out when she couldn't find her parking garage ticket.

I can't remember the last time I was out until 5am.

Miraculously I was up at 10am, and so were Victoria and Rachel, getting ready to meet their cousin/friend (can't remember) for brunch. And just like that, they were gone.

I chilled at the apartment. Watched Season 1 of Chuck (or at least the first 4 episodes thereof). A quiet Sunday.

TIJUANA DAY! 08/07/2010

Friday, August 13, 2010

Friday night: Andy and Patty's last night in LA. They stayed in to rest (still knackered from the time difference and all).

I met up with Jonathan and Ruben at a Himalayan restaurant in Culver City, where I ate Yak! It was delicious and lean but still tender. I also ordered it extra spicy. After stopping by the apartment, we then drove to TRiP in Santa Monica to see some live music. It was kind of a disappointment. There were only like 10 people in the audience. And I was talked into buying a strong Belgian beer that really didn't taste that great. We left around 11 and I was asleep before midnight.

Saturday: MY DAY TRIP TO TIJUANA!

Said bye to Andy and Patty, who left for LAX to catch their flight to Vegas. They almost missed the flight! (Extremely) Luckily the flight was delayed an hour, giving them time to get through security. I was stuck in traffic near LAX and almost picked them up too.

No ridesharers ended up joining us to Mexico. And Michelle (other) flaked out. So it was just the two of us. Whatevs. The drive was fine past the LAX traffic/accident. I parked at a San Diego trolley station in National City and we were soon on a trolley ride to the border! The neighborhoods passed by, and the composition of people riding the trolley became steadily more Mexican. The end of the line came, and Michelle and I simply followed the crowd as it entered what looked like a nondescript parking garage. It was actually the bridge to get over the freeway and over the border crossing. And, after spiraling up and down either side of the bridge, we simply walked through the metal revolving door and were in Mexico!

That was easy.

There were a couple police outposts right by the border entrance, but we weren't stopped once. The walkway opened into the street, with plenty of taxis eager to snap you up. I naturally had my guards up. Nevertheless I was surprized with the level of persistence that taxi drivers (and shopkeepers) insist that you choose them. I had plenty of opportunities to master my "No, gracias!".

We walked down the gauntlet of tourist-trap souvenir shops and "2 for 1" restaurant-cantinas. There weren't very many visitors anywhere. Right before crossing the river, there's a big plaza that was near deserted. There were small stands along the sloping path that spirals up to the bridge over the river. The staircase down the other side smelled pungently of urine.

Soon we were on Avenida Revolución. There were shops selling touristy stuff. Not much different than the touristy part of any major city. We were hungry, though, so we headed straight for the red light district, home of the restaurant mentioned on Wikitravel that served goat. It's actually birria, which is a meat stew that was absolutely delicious! Michelle and I split that, they kept refilling our tortillas (which were freshly hand-made) and even the stew! I also (spontaneously) ordered a gordita, which was full of cheeeeeeeeesy awesomeness. It's essentially a super grilled cheese sandwith WITH CARNE ASADA and made with tortillas instead of bread. Simply amazing. We were both elated to be eating such great food.

We then walked around the red light district. There were plenty of girls just standing on the sidewalk, with apathetic looks on their faces. The neighborhood didn't give me that bad of a vibe, though, despite the fact that Michelle and I were the only non-Mexicans around. We then returned to Avenida Revolución. (My camera was acting up this whole day, shaking and vibrating whenever I'd turn it on, so I didn't get many good pictures.) We bought two Mexican wrestling masks as gifts for the birthday celebration later that night. It was amazing having to haggle so aggressively to buy something. The salesman originally said the masks were $65 each. We eventually got him down to $10, but I wonder if we could've gotten him lower. Meh. Soon afterwards I did a similar bargaining dance with a shop lady for a wall-sized Mexican flag for my collection. $15 - I feel I should have held out for a lower price.

After walking all of Revolución, we set our sights southwards, toward the big flag that towers over TJ. You could easily see it from the U.S. too. So we walked there.

Then we walked past a small city park, with a creepy homeless guy talking to himself and yelling loudly. That moment was probably the least safe I felt in Tijuana. And I felt similar to how I feel in LA when a homeless guy yells at me.

We then walked past a few shops selling caskets and funeral accessories. Wikitravel said this area was the more genuine and authentic side of Tijuana. Hmm...

We continued walking in the sandy bright sun. Back across a couple of not-so-noteworthy neighborhoods that vaguely reminded me of parts of San José (Costa Rica). We stumbled upon the Tijuana Cultural Center (or whatever it was).

Michelle and I sat in the shade of the substantial orb and rested our legs. (I was wearing chucks this whole day, btw.) I soon finished the last of my water bottle.

The afternoon passed more quickly than I had expected. It was nearly 5pm and we needed to get back across the border. So we walked across the river, tried to see a side of TJ beyond the usual tourist routes, but alas, there really wasn't much worth noting. There WAS, however, a Thrifty Ice Cream stand right before the border! Of COURSE I had to get a scoop. I munched on my cookies and cream while waiting in line at the border. It took like half an hour almost to get through the passport check. Meh.

Back in the U.S. The trolley took us back to Sue, who survived safely in the parking lot. I drove Michelle briefly through downtown SD because she had never really been before, which astonished me. I got a voicemail from a potential rideshare, but by the time I got back to the US and could call him, he had already found a ride. It was 8pm by the time we got back. I had two girls couchsurfing with me that evening - Victoria and Rachel. And we had a good night indeed, but that's a whole other story... to come...

Still more amused by TV shows...

Went out with Andy and Patty last night. Picked them up in Hollywood, drove to El Cholo and had some dinner. There were two promoters from XX (Dos Equis) who gave us coupons off the beer. AND as we were finishing our meal, in walked a couple extremely good looking young women, followed by a few more women, and more! There were like 30 of them, all seated along a long table. Finally, a girl wearing a bridal veil entered. It was a Bachelorette party (Buck's night)! Patty was all fumbled up trying to think of how to approach them. But beware the cheerleader effect. We eventually left without bothering the ladies. But that wasn't all for tonight...

Headed back to the apt and power napped for about an hour. Then the three of us went to Busby's right on Santa Monica in Santa Monica. I had read that it's a sports bar that turns into a dance club. The people outside looked really dressed up. Inside there was an area reserved for a private party. After a brief hesitation, I crashed the party... there were a lot of young, innocent looking people standing about awkwardly. I asked someone what it was, and turns out it was a mixer for all the first-year med school students at UCLA. Cool beans. The dance floor got packed soon thereafter. I was reminded of bad times at frat parties and soon withdrew into myself. Patty, however, was on the prowl and chatted up a couple girls. I feel that I dampened the evening by saying we should go home around midnight. I just value sleep, what?!

There aren't enough hours in the day.

Oh yes, and I received my new ipod! I named her Erika. She's nice. But it's hard to replace Rachel. And since it's just a replacement, not something brand new to me, I'm not as ecstatic as I would be.

Jogged around VA this morning. Listened to "Snakes on a Plane" and Yellowcard. Crystal stayed over last night, we chatting this morning over breakfast/cantaloupe.

Got to work late. Like 9:30 late. No worries, but I wonder how late I can push it?

Dale and I are wearing the same purple long-sleeve t-shirt.

I feel oddly spritely. I feel like an adult. Taking charge of responsibilities, and actually doing stuff.

Clementine lunch today! To celebrate Dave's last day. Yummy BLT with applewood smoked bacon and organic heirloom tomatoes and freshly toasted bread. But I kinda wish I ordered the burger (with grass-fed beef!).

The new Santa Monica Place opened today. Andy and Patty are there.

Music: All Time Low - Six Feet Under the Stars;

Tonight: Celebrating Jonathan's last weekend in LA before he goes to the east coast. Korean BBQ

My Aussies for the week - Andy and Pat - arrived yesterday. Picked 'em up after work in downtown LA, at a noodle bar they sort of stumbled upon (but also a noodle bar frequented by the likes of Adrien Grenier). They were absolutely knackered from the time difference, napped for a little bit in a park next to city hall. Then we were off to the Bucket. Traffic was incredibly bad. Like, it took maybe 12 minutes just to transition from the 101 onto the 110 north. (It would take less than 10 minutes to walk that.) Bad move, I'll stick to the side streets next time.
So yeah, Bucket. Good times, I'm glad I made an exception for myself to eat meat there. Patty didn't get carded. Drove back.
Work is meh today. I'm not really doing anything.
Music: Pendulum; the Kooks
Work is actually worse than meh. It's frankly uninspiring. Even my motivation to apply to other jobs is gone!
Lunch: 2 frozen burritos. Banana.
Going to Hollywood today after work to meet up with my Aussies.

Monday, August 9, 2010

Late night walk/jog last night. Contemplated things.
Private runway in Nevada. It's a bit like a puzzle.
Kevin's second day at his job. He also designs his own board games (and programmed a Sudoku solving program out of spite!).
Andy and his brother arrive today. I was checking their flight status to see if I'd pick them up.
Jogged around the VA hospital this morning. It's still cloudy and chilly.
Gotta mail rent.
Google myself - most of the results are actually me :)
... I need to track how many websites I'm actually on.
Hosting travelers has made me realize how much people underestimate the vastness of Los Angeles, which is precisely what I enjoy most.
News: Judge Walker to rule on gay marriage today. "Static Kill" seems to have been working on the oil spill. Pakistan floods, bad. Obama's birthday today!
Music: B.O.B. - Nothin' on You
I BOUGHT AN IPOD. It's shipping today.
Faxed in the insurance info for my car.

It's good to be busy...

Watched An Education last night.
Went to Spaceland last night. I couldn't get Tiger beer. Clotilde and Guillaume left before the first band even started! We only stayed for the first 2 bands, who were not bad: The Franks and Kenan Bell.
Construction on the 405 detoured my drive back home. Gurr.
I never got to see Clotilde and Guillaume afterwards, they had left early in the morning.
... because I was sleeping well. Didn't get to work til 9:15. No sugar or raisins in the apt - so I had to eat oatmeal with banana for breakfast.
I'm focusing on work this morning, no distractions for a few hours. It feels good, getting things organized.
Lunch: A few soy nuggets. And a banana.
My first for the day: Bidding on an item on EBay. I'm trying to buy an ipod. People keep sniping my bids at the last second. Gurrr.
Almost (?) got free tickets to an improv show with Charlie Murphy. The craigslist ad got flagged, I suspect it wasn't legit.

Finally used our investigative tools to search for something in my own life. And I learned something important. I'm not totally surprised by it, but still somewhat stunned. More numb than anything.

Wednesday, August 4, 2010

There's a lot going on!
Kevin's moved in - with his pimped out bike.
Ate organic shabu-shabu last night.
Clotilde and Guillerme are touring WB studios today.
Spaceland tonight?
Music: Kansas - Carry on My Wayward Son; Timbaland and Justin Timberlake - Carry Out; Elton John - Levon
Lots of job opportunities, especially with websites, etc.
Lots of new music to listen to.
Still deciding on an ipod. Stopped by the Apple store. A guy was hogging the ipod touch.
Lunch: 2 bananas and an apple.
This is shaping up to be a busy/exciting week. We'll see...
...playing sudoku.

Spaceland tonight!

July 30-31 - August 1 Weekend

Friday night: Brendan and his mom were there. I drove to Glassell and went on a Northeast LA pub crawl! The Black "Bore", 4100 (which lost its magic), [a peek inside Akbar!] Tiki Ti, and Good Luck Bar. Then Del Taco.

It's so hard to be vegetarian when you're at Del Taco at 2am. So hard. So I ate chicken.

Drove back to West LA. Whoo.

Saturday: Brendan and his mom packed up and moved out of the apartment.
Finished watching Shutter Island. Good psychological thriller, even though it took a while for me to get into it.
Chilled at the apt most of the day. Made pancakes with cheese and Tapatio sauce. My not-so-secret recipe.
Went to RA Sushi Torrance to meet up with Jonathan during happy hour. Brian took a while to get there, happy hour was almost over. Lots of good sushi though. We spent some time thinking of good names for my car - Claire, Lisa, Joanna - none really seemed right.
Afterwards it was just Brian and I. The Del Amo mall is depressingly out of date and out of touch, especially around 8pm on a Saturday.
Stopped by Alpine Village. There was a wedding or quinceañera going on. But the restaurant/beer hall was filled with old people. So our response was to RUN! (just like that one pub in London, haha)

Ended up back in West LA. Checked out the Daily Pint in Santa Monica. Now what a nice bar this was. Dark, somewhat damp, a place you wouldn't be surprised to find some shady business going on in the basement. Yet a great selection of beer and scotch whisky! Definitely my kind of place! Brian and I walked through once to check out the bar, and a girl named Sue eyes us over and approaches us - "I have this extra shot of Jack, and it's way too much for me. Do you guys want it?"

I contemplated for half a second the possibility that I could be drugged and brutally taken advantage of. Then the more rational side of my brain kicked in: FREE ALCOHOL! And Brian and I imbibed. We felt oddly wobbly the rest of the night. Never mind that - this was clearly a sign from the gods of whiskey/whisky: MY CAR IS NOW NAMED SUE.

And he looked and saw that it was good.

Sunday: New month. Yay.
Clotilde and Guillaume went to the beach for the day. They had contemplated going to San Diego, but it was too much and they haven't really had a beach day yet. Although the weather's been so chilly this summer at the beach, it's really disappointing.
Took recycling to Culver City. Cut my finger on a shard of glass. Got $3.30 for my beer bottles, and used it to help pay for groceries.
My new flatmate has arrived! He is Kevin. He is from New York (just graduated). He works in video games. He starts his new job tomorrow (Monday). He is vegan. And he has an electric bicycle worth $1800. He arrived in the afternoon with his (gluten-allergic and also vegan) girlfriend Crystal from Irvine.
Went to dinner. Organic shabu shabu with mom and uncle. Then milkshakes for dessert.

Music: Black Eyed Peas; "Faith"; "MMMBop"
Talked with Brendan's mom last night, for a while - about cultures, religion, Japan, earthquakes, the pope, and taxes.
Watched When in Rome. Cheesy.

I'm sleep deprived this week. No full nights rest for me.
Cass was in DC. Jenn won a BH&Gardens recipe contest!
Considering LSE. It seems really hard to get in though.
I might not even need a GRE score to apply. D'oh.
Called Kevin, who responded to my craigslist ad. Looks like he'll be moving in to the apt!
Lunch: Small salad.
Shopping for a replacement ipod. It costs $140 to repair my broken one.
Yes, I'm using craigslist to shop for an ipod too.
Livemocha.com: FREE basic language lesson! I'm learning French now :)
Airbnb guests arriving tonight: Clotilde and her husband.
Music to get: Toto - Africa

Last night! Drove back to the apt, picked up Brendan, and we were off on our adventure to "Buy More." Drove to Woodland Hills - and there it was, the former Mervyn's used in the TV show! Whaaaaa!
Then off to Burbank, saw the other Buy More location and had dinner at Hooters, where we played WINGO but neither of us won :/
On the way back, I had to pull a U-ie to get a good look at the huge billboards on the side of WB studios. THEN stopped in Hollywood to get a pic of Chuck's house. Seriously, stalking overload!
I got a call from CHRIS. Finally. Great to catch up, but always over the phone?! Life is changing so fast. It really is crazy.
Brendan was impressed by how young the US's buildings and culture are.
"That's it"!
Back at the apartment, Eva and Lena were there (they had met with their friend from Germany). I exchanged TV shows with Brendan.

Today: My energy/aura feels negative. I feel slightly guilty (but of what? I really don't know). Woke up at 6:45 but Brendan was already gone so I couldn't say bye. I tried to fall back asleep. It just made me more tired. Drove to work - 9:05. Traffic bad.
Music: Rivers Cuomo and B.o.B - Magic
I learned what Münchausen syndrome actually is.
The rent check for July was deposited, so my bank account has correspondingly plummeted. Sigh.
... still looking for someone to live in the apt for August!
I'm spending a lot of time on FB.

Hung out with Brendan, Eva & Lena last night. Went to TJs and cooked fajitas (sort of) and had 2 bottles of wine. Whoooah!
It was cold. Brendan's mom has arrived. She's nice.

Jogged this morning (around the high school). Drove to work. Traffic.
The plan for this afternoon is to go to "Buy More" from the TV show Chuck. It's in Woodland Hills. Brendan is apparently a huge fan and this would make his trip. And I'll gladly take any excuse to drive my new car around :)

I just went to the Apple store. Rachel has been officially pronounced dead. :(
Now I'm shopping for a new ipod. There goes another couple hundred dollars. It's crazy how I'm more broke now than before I started working. Keeping up a 21st century life is expensive!

Westlaw lunch/presentation. I stood the whole time. And I've heard it all before.
Lunch: Clementine sandwich and cobb salad.
Considering fellowships to volunteer abroad. Kiva fellows?

Music: Drake - Find Your Love
News: Plane crash in Pakistan; AZ immigration law to begin
